Day Five…
October 13th, 2005Not only did we cover the basic fire service knots but we were out on the fire ground practising several methods of carrying and raising 24′ ladders. Here are some shots of some of the boys using the 14′ ladder:
Later, in the afternoon, the Instructors took us over to Keene’s Fire Dept so we could check out their 100′ ladder truck and go for a little climb! What a cool truck!! Wish I had my camera now….
Because one of the Engine Co’s forgot to check for “overhead obstructions” BEFORE they raised their ladder (and I won’t name any names…..), our Instructor made every Engine Co. pick up a rail tie and carry it around the field while shouting “Checking the area for overhead obstructions….the area is clear of overhead obstructions.”
I think the Instructor was having a little fun at our expense….
