Well…..

Summer has just been buzzing by!
Between work, having Bushpilot guests crash my doorstep, getting some new home owner projects done and peppered with some sweet Okanagan/Interior riding…..my summer has been busy to say the least!
But it’s not over yet!

My latest complete project – Voila! The front yard:
This is a fir tree smack in the center of my yard. Someone thought it would be a great idea to pile a huge load of dirt up against the tree trunk. This is bad news for the tree. This only invites the bark to rot, which is then an open door to pests. Then you’d be standing in your front yard wondering: a) why is my tree rotten at the base? b) How the heck am I going to bring this huge tree down with out hitting my house?
A few days after we moved in, I set to work.
I must have pulled 2 yards of old concrete-like dirt out, leveled it, replaced the weed barrier and put a light layer of compost on top.
I thought I’d try shaking a can of wild flower seeds here with “planty” good results!!!

Butterflies and Humminbirds LOVE this!

It was looking a little empty here, so I found some gorgeous Daylilies and gave them a new home!

Opposite this corner at the driveway, there is a purple weeping Japanese maple.
I thought this corner need a shrub that at least matched the color of the maple.
Found this bush, appropriatly named the “Smoke Bush” bahahahahaha! Pretty good huh?
It should gorw pretty big, and I guess when it flowers, the whole bush looks fuzzy – giving it a smoke-like look!

I hope it grows quick!

….and now onto the backyard! Many projects on the go there!

Time to put this weekend to the bed….Ooops! Sven beat me to it.

I guess Weebels sometimes DO fall down.

Anyway, HUGE update today. For some reason we seemed to take a lot of good shots for the holiday monday.

Like this one of breakfast.

I don’t suppose any of you have been drinking this weekend, have you?

Oh, and that flowered shirt? That would be our old buddy Mark (Syncro on the NSMB.com boards) who stopped in to see what the local skinnies were like.

After seeing the pics from yesterday, everyone was into checking out Arawana today, although we did modify the route to make it one big lap for today rather than a couple of shorter ones.

The boys were really pushing the skinnies for the last day.

Little airs…

Big smiles…

No Sven, it’s not a wheelie drop.

Mark working hard to get the Behemoth over the gap.

….and Andrew tries to find his center (hint: its not over there).

“Get this thing off my baaaaaaacckkkk!”

Welcome the 2008 Brodie catalog.

Here’s me getting chased by a giant can of beer.

Hi…..

Higher…..

Mark making new lines.

Another Brodie catalog shot.

For the second part of the ride we got into some endless singletrack on the Rusty Muffler.

Artsy Mariposa Lily shot courtesy of Barb.

Ahhhh, yes. The winery.

A great way to take a break on the side of the trail.

Not everyone kept the ride going to the bitter end, but for those that did…

There were certain…

….perks. Keep going there Dorothy, I think there’s a few drops left.

Uhhhhh, which way is the trail again?

For gods sake Jeff……get a tan. Your whiteness is interfering with my view…..

Yeah, it’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it.

The ladies totally agreed.

And so we end how we started, with a wobbled Weebel.

Good long weekend. I think this crew will be down for a repeat in September. Harper Mtn. campout, everyone?

Uh oh, we’re totally busted. Someone found out that we’re just faking all this…

Apparently we’re not hardcore enough for some Westbank loc’s that think they are God’s gift to the bike world. Fricken’ white trash….I know where you live.

On to happier events…. HAPPY CANADA DAY!!! Let’s go ride.

Colin from the now defunct (I think he packed ‘er in last year) Toss Gear and his girlfriend showed up so along with Sven and Dorothy (Aimee and Andrew went winery-ing and Sarah and Jeff went to Silver Star, Barb was at work…) we hit up Arawana. Colin REALLY hit up Arawana….

That was the infamous Bud Height hit. Johnny was feeling a little tired from a solid week of rides, but still that new Knolly is so killer that he managed to hit some of the few remaining ramps that he hasn’t gotten around to nailing…

Colin was loving the Okanagan vibes, although some it was a bit over Sven’s head….

Think he can hit the lake from there?

He was sure trying to…

Metallic blue beetle, not sure what kind it is. If you really know your coleoptera, let us know.

Back to riding, in the Arawana Canyon.

Very artsy….

So hard to get perspective in here. Johnny’s going to have to spring for a fisheye lens soon.

Final bit of singletrack before the beach.

Ahhhh yes……Day 2. I think we may have been up late last night. Aimee had to one eye it to bed….

She looked a little worse for wear the morning, as did we all.

Oh well, at least it was sunny out.

The bluebird skies inpired us all to hit everything in sight.

Even Barb, with a huge hangover, was hitting up the moves.

Sven is getting the North Shore cobwebs out.

Andrew drops in on his new Brodie Devo.

Whatever, that’s old hat for Barb.

A bit of a possee.

I said POSSEE.

Still, it makes you wanna get in the van, doesn’t it?

Round 2 we went for the longer lines. They twist around more, takes longer.

Sarah is a bit newer to the sport, but she was still railing the ramps and proving that yes…she is a good sport.

Good thing thse Shore skills are stilll sharp, eh Sven?

Dorothy on her first berm ride.

All these folks pushing their skills and stepping up their game gave Johnny the inspiration he said he’s been lacking to hit the Monster Amigo on the new rig. Finally….the monkey is off his back. Damn, if that isn’t one of the nicest hits around.

Good times….good times.
