Our team flew out to the Fire Etc. training facility in Vermillion, Alberta the day after our last night shift.
Every year we have certain skills in ARFF (Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting) that require re-certification under the CARs regulations (Canadian Aviation Regulations) , just the usual stuff….then every 3 years we have to re-cert major skills such as this one:
Here we have to be able to put a 5000 sq ft liquid fuel fire out…
…using the contents of this truck.
We have a truck just like this one at home, but we rarely use it, as it doesn’t hold as much water as our E-One’s and Stryker ARFF Trucks.
But for our purpose for training, it was suitable and a challenge!
After lunch, we spent the afternoon doing some scenarios around aircraft fires, most engine fire and APU (auxilary power units) fire mockups. We had the opportunity to join forces with the Edmonton Airport Fire Department and share ideas…
Here’s Pappy riding in the back of Red 2 on the way to “the call”:
And then me on the other side of the truck:
More shots from training wil be posted soon – so stay tuned!
